Let's Talk Series 2

Let’s Talk is a collection of interview/information videos that aim to provide carers, young carers, their families, and the workforce with different types of support available throughout Dundee.  In the past, we have featured a number of different organisations and services, plus local authorities and national agencies, and even Joe Wicks the Bodycoach!

If you are an organisation and would like to be featured the Carers of Dundee team would like to hear from you!

Please email [email protected] with your contact details and someone from our Comms team will be in touch.

Season 2 episodes:

Volunteers Week 2023

In this video, Claire is joined by Neil Campbell, CEO of Dundee Carers Centre and Alix Hill, Volunteer Coordinator for the centre, to discuss volunteering at the centre and events taking place to celebrate Volunteers Week.

Throughout the conversation, we explore the various ways volunteers contribute to the community and how their selfless acts of kindness make a real difference to unpaid carers and disabled people the centre support.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2023 - "Anxiety"

To kick off Mental Health Awareness Week, we are excited to be joined by Clare and Sarah from the counselling team at Dundee Carers Centre who answer questions sent to us by carers about anxiety.

Anxiety can be a difficult and overwhelming experience, but you don’t have to face it alone. If you are a carer and would like advice or support, please call 01382 200422

Community Listening Service - NHS Tayside

Claire speaks with Lorraine from the Community Listening Service in Dundee.
Lorraine talks about what the service does and how you could access a 50-minute appointment with fully trained listeners on the phone or within your GP practice all for FREE.

The service is available to anyone registered with a Tayside GP practice. Email [email protected], call 01382 423116 or text 0796 7771941 to make an appointment or find out more. Both staff-initiated and self-referrals are welcome.

Carers Charter in Dundee Schools

In our pre recorded Let’s Talk, we hear from Gemma; Dundee Cares Charter, Paul Flemming; Interim Head of Education and Chief Education Officer and Fiona Low; Education Officer (Learning & Inclusion) who tell us why Dundee schools are signing up to be part of Dundee Cares Charter and why this is important for schools and young carers.

The work that Dundee Schools undertake in identifying and supporting young carers, in partnership with Dundee Carers Centre, has been recognised as sector leading across Scotland.

The presentation of the Carers of Dundee Charter to each and every school in the City is a way of recognising the excellent practice in Dundee schools of identifying and nurturing the amazing young carers of our City.

We are delighted that schools in Dundee are signing up to the Dundee Carers Charter and presentations for each individual school will be taking place over the coming months.

Carers Decide Groupwork Programme

Claire is joined by Tom and Adele from the Groupwork Team at Dundee Carers Centre who chat about the Carers Decide Groupwork Programme, which are short-term regular groups where carers plan what they want to discuss and have an opportunity to learn with and from other carers.

Marnie Baxter "Hello Muscles"

We speak to Marnie Baxter, Director of “Hello Muscles” – an award-winning short film starring Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones) and Richard Rankin (Outlander), which explores how it might feel to come to terms with being a young carer and what it means to be strong when caring for someone you love.

Marnie talks about how the concept for the film started and how she hopes it can spark empathy, understanding and encourage conversation around the work that young carers do and the support available. Marnie also speaks to Claire about an exciting new project inviting young adult carers aged 18-24 to a workshop at the DCA, where they will work with professional producers, cinematographers, sound recordists, and editors to create and record their own short film.

If you would like to be involved in the workshop or would like more information please email [email protected]
