State of Caring Scotland 2025 Report

Carers Scotland has published a new research report, State of Caring: The cost of caring in Scotland 2025, that paints a troubling picture for Scotland’s 627,000 unpaid carers, with significant costs to their financial security, health, employment and opportunities.

The research shows an alarming rise in the number of unpaid carers forced to cut back on heating their homes and feeding themselves, and the financial pressures on carers intensifying.

As we move towards the election, the next Scottish Government and all parties in the Scottish Parliament must recognise that bold action is needed to change a system that pushes carers into poverty and ill health.
