Scotland’s Counting the Costs 2024

There is a desperate lack of services and support for parents in Scotland who care for a disabled child.

We know that families face huge financial challenges, particularly with the costs of energy, housing, equipment and childcare.

A big part of our work at Contact is campaigning on behalf of families for better financial support from the UK and Scottish governments.

But we can’t do any of this without your help. Contact’s Counting the Costs survey helps us get the voice of parent carers into the media and the UK and Scottish Parliaments. It provides unique insights into the challenges faced by parent carers, helping to raise better awareness and drive the changes that families desperately need.

Taking part can change things

Thanks to your help in completing surveys like Counting the Costs, we have successfully campaigned for better financial support for families with disabled children, including:

  • Cost of living payments and help towards energy bills.
  • Ending the DLA takeaway in hospital.
  • Extra childcare payments for disabled children.

Scotland’s voice

The survey is taken by parent carers across the UK, but we currently have fewer responses from Scotland compared to other nations.

We need the experiences of Scottish families to be heard loud and clear, so please help us by taking part. The more Scottish families that are represented, the more powerful our conversations will be with Scottish MPs and MSPs.

We know that you get asked to do a lot of surveys, but our Counting the Costs survey is one that’s worth taking and can really make a difference.

The survey takes 20 minutes to complete. Plus, by taking part, you’ll also have a chance to win one of 10 vouchers worth £50 each!
