2026 will see the opening of a one-year pilot public diner in Dundee.
Public diners, much like public leisure centres or public transport, are part of public infrastructure – designed to make our lives better. They are state-supported restaurants serving high-quality meals at low prices for everyone. Public diners are not luxury restaurants or community meals. They are everyday eating places that make it possible to eat well without breaking the bank or compromising our health. Crucially, they are based on equality, designed to be used by anyone who lives, works or passes through the city.
Both the Dundee public diner and its sister pilot in Nottingham will be developed with the input of local people. Nourish Scotland wants to hear your thoughts about every aspect of the diner – what meals should feature on the menu, what price you’d be willing to pay for a decent, home-cooked meal, how the restaurant should be decorated, what it should be called, etc.
This survey is short, but feel free to email Nourish Scotland with further thoughts, ideas and suggestions at [email protected].
