One Parent Families Scotland (OPFS) is conducting research, funded by The Robertson Trust, to identify barriers faced by single parents in, or accessing, Higher Education. Our goal is to develop actionable recommendations for institutions to improve support systems.
The Survey – www.surveymonkey.com/r/HigherEducation4SingleParents Our online survey targets single parents in Scotland who are:
- Current HE students
- Former HE students
- Prospective HE students
It explores key issues such as:
- Financial barriers, including interactions with the UK and Scottish benefits systems.
- Access to childcare.
- Confidence, information gaps, and other support needs.
How You Can Help
- Share the survey link with your student body and alumni networks, focusing on single parents.
- Promote the survey on your social media and newsletters. We’ve attached a graphic to make this easier—please tag us when posting (handles below).
- Encourage relevant teams and organisations within your institution to get involved.
